February 23, 2009

We drove by the grave site on Saturday, the weather was wet and cold. When looking at the grave its uncomfortable  knowing that a month to the day the babies were full of life and we both had such expectations for the both of them. At the hospital we discussed how we would spend as much time needed with the boys while they were growing in the hospital. How maybe if they were doing well, they would have the opportunity to come home early. We also talked about how Concetta was so excited to have not just one new baby brother, but two little babies to take care of for mommy. Not once did we even consider that the babies wouldn't come home to be loved and raised as our own.
In looking back through everything that has happened and how life has changed, we are beginning to see the times that we won't be able to have with Luke and Matthew. Yet we are blessed every minute to appreciate having Concetta and John and clearly understanding the priceless value of our children.

February 19th . 4 weeks

Jeremiah 17:14 "Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise."
I ran across this verse and have had it on my mind. What a month it has been, our boys passed four weeks ago this morning. This is a verse that I believe magnifies the hope that both Matthew and Luke had the morning of January 22nd. They were healed of earthly sickness and pain, and without decision to live or die, they were saved to there father.
In all of this we give praise.

Welcome February 15th, 2009

Welcome and thank you for sharing this site with our family.

Over the past months we have lived a journey beyond comprehension and are asking for your thoughts and prayer as we continue.

Please read through the journey that begins on the bottom of this page (December 1st 2008) and leave words of encouragement, verse, thought, and prayer as we live God's plan for our lives.

Thank you.

February 4th 2009 7am

Two weeks ago this morning my beautiful boys were born. The most perfect little guys that we could ever want or dream of having. On that Wednesday, Chrissy and I were blessed with two gifts that we will always cherish and take with us for the rest of our earthly life. Matthew and Luke gave us a clearer understanding of love, purpose, patience, and hope for eternal life. Over the past 3 months we struggled with questions of what if and when, yet two weeks ago our questions were answered with gifts of life and love.

Now back at work and two weeks since Matthew and Luke were given and taken from us, I grieve with the pain of our loss and memories of holding my sons. The reality hits harder than imagined and I long to see my sons again, yet know of there future and the hope that they have received.Thank you so much for all of the words of encouragement, hugs, cards, and prayer that you have given my family and our two perfect gifts. I will never forget the day that we were given with Matthew and Luke and that lasting imprint that they made on all of our lives. With Sincere Gratefulness.

January 21st 3pm

3pm:
Praise God for our two new baby boys!

As posted, Luke (2lbs 11oz) and Matthew (3lbs 2oz) were born via c-section at 8:32 and 8:33am. I was with Chrissy during delivery and able to see my sons in the recesitation room minutes later. Luke looking very red and Matthew looking very pale, have added water weight and will probably drop a pound or more over the next few days. Since birth both Luke and Matthew have been put on ventilators and are minute by minute in watch and care. The blood levels in both twins have continued to balance by way of transfusion and are being monitored for low blood pressure. We were told that Luke and Matthew are still very sick and face an uphill journey, yet they have the best care and support to do so.

Please continue to pray for continued strength a recovery for Chrissy and our two fragile little guys.

Thanks again.

The Boys Are Here!! January 21st 9AM

Luke was born this morning at 8:32, and he weighs 2lb. 11 oz. Matthew was born a minute later, and he weighs 3 lb. 2 oz. The boys both need prayer. Both boys are in the ICU nursery. Chrissy is doing well.

January 20th 2009 (ITS TIME)

Chrissy was admitted to Miami Valley this afternoon to give birth to the twins at 8:15 Wednesday morning.

While at OSU this morning Chrissy was told that Matthew is in need of a blood transfusion and is suffering from anemia and Luke is no longer able to survive in the womb with his heart failing.

The boys are 27 weeks with Matthew weighing 2lbs 3oz and Luke weighing 2lbs 11oz. We are overjoyed that the twins have made it this far and excited to meet them in person. Please pray for life in each little boy and also peace and strength for Chrissy while she is stressed.

Thanks for your prayers and constant support.

(27 Weeks Tomorrow!)
Today we visited Childrens in Columbus and OSU. We learned that Matthew is looking much better and continuing to improve. The liquid around his heart is minimal and he seems to be growing each day. Luke continues to have decreasing heart health with an increase in his hearts size and signs that his heart and health are failing.
The question of whether to deliver or try to keep the pregnancy longer was answered, in that the baby's need more time and that giving birth to Luke this early puts two strikes against him. The doctors at OSU will continue to monitor the baby's progress twice a week and hopefully the pregnancy will continue until both boys are well enough to be delivered.

January 12th 2009

Chrissy had her weekly appointment today at OSU. While at the appt we were updated of the twins progress. The latest on the twins is mixed news:
Both Baby Luke and Matthew are now 26 wks and are showing less fluid in there lungs. Baby Matthew is progressing very well with little fluid still surrounding his strong heart.
Baby Luke is having a hard time and continues to show more problems with his heart. Lukes little heart is almost twice the size of Matthews and shows damage throughout, though no longer surrounded by extra fluid. The Doctor is happy with the lack of fluid, yet very concerned with the hearts size and structural issues.
Another concern today is the decision of choosing to let the babys remain in Chrissy or move forward with birth. The Doctors don't want to deliver babies that are sick and months early, yet are seeing Luke continue to decline and want to give the babies the best chance of survival. Please continue to pray for baby Luke that he will stay strong and that his heart will improve. Also for the continuation of progress for baby Matthew.Chrissy has appointments Tuesday in Dayton, Friday at Columbus Children's to meet with a heart specialist, and at OSU to check for improvement and make some decisions on what steps to take.

January 3rd 2009

Chrissy came home from the hospital about an hour ago. The doctors said that since Thursday the babies have been stable and haven't declined. The doctors decided against removing fluid due the risk of rupturing the babies membrane. While in the hospital the doctors were able to stop the contractions and buy some more time before delivery. Chrissy is 25 weeks today and our hope is that she can make it to 26 or longer. We were told that the percentage of survival for babies with TTTS, has shown to increase from just under 60% to over 70% if held until 26 weeks.Chrissy and I would like to thank you all for your prayers, support and constant reminders of hope for our twins.
We can't wait to meet our little guys and for them to meet each of you.John

January 1st 2009

Chrissy was admitted to Miami Valley Hospital @ 9:30 am and will be staying overnight. She has been having contractions since 2 am and was told to head to the hospital. Today the babies are 24wks 5days and need prayer. This is not a good situation due to the problems with each of the boys, yet we pray for the best.
Please keep Chrissy and our two boys in prayer.

December 23 2008

Today we went to our weekly appointment at OSU medical center and here is the latest on our twin boys:Luke James Augustine / Twin A: 1 lb 13 oz. and growing...

Baby Luke (Baby A) has grown rapidly over the past 3 weeks since surgery. He has made a remarkable improvement yet still has a long road to take. Baby A currently has 3 leaky valves in the heart and is carrying fluid around the heart and in his skin. Although a high risk, Luke is in good hands.Matthew David Augustine / Twin B: 1 lb 3 oz.Baby Matthew (Baby B) is known as the healthier twin and has made the most progress of the two. Baby B however is showing very little growth and has been at a standing point over the last week. Baby B has a healthy heart and is a strong little boy who loves to kick his brother. Both babies have made great progress and are fighting each day to be introduced.
As of right now we are waiting for the babies to take over and start adjusting to the change from surgery.
